Flamenco Guitar Classes

I'm now accepting new students for private in person classes or streaming via Zoom when needed. We adjusted quickly during the pandemic and found lessons are still extremely effective.

Philosophy

If you are looking at this page, you have probably realized how exciting flamenco guitar is. For me, the technique, rhythm, phrasing, melodic structure, and spiritual/emotional content are absolutely entrancing and addicting. I don't believe one art form is superior to another, but flamenco has certainly hooked me for life.

I teach because I love to. Over the years it has become as close to my heart as performing, composing and recording. Classes are taught in the oral tradition keeping things very hands on and fun/challenging. Tab can be written if the student is stuck, but this is rarely needed. You will adjust to learning the material "in" the lesson to be able to study correctly at home along with detailed video clips taken at the end of your lesson. This will also better prepare you to learn the way you would be taught in Spain.

My goal is to show you HOW to play flamenco, rather than focusing only material. We will focus on the fundamentals from the beginning, incorporating skills that will later be able to be used in a real flamenco environment. All students will learn proper technique, compas(rhythm) and syncopation first, just like I did. We will cover many forms of flamenco(Tangos, Solea, Buleria, Alegria, Sevillanas, Siguitriya etc) falsetas(melodic phrases or solos), ear training, flamenco theory, voice & dance accompaniment and palmas to give you a solid base. Total beginners to advanced or professional guitarists are always welcome here. Now having experience working with Musician's Focal Dystonia, I have new perspective and knowledge of biomechanics and playing without tension, neuro training(using both sides of the brain) as well as dealing with the many psychological aspects that musicians face as their skills grow. Flamenco is challenging, but learning and playing music should always be a fun and positive experience.
